-The Legend-
There once was a fair king, by the name of Viktor Moore. He was respected among elders, valued at war, and popular amongst the ladies. After the valiant conquer of numerous distant lands, Viktor decided to retire to his former kingdom. In his absence his castle had fallen to disrepair and was no longer suitable for such a noble lord. He gave his smaller estate to a friendly baron by the name of Sir Samuel Rogers, and bought a large expanse of wilderness known as Fenrir Forest to the north. In the center of the property was a vast shimmering lake called Lichmere. Its beauty was impeccable, but its water icy cold. It was so frigid that it was deadly to wade in too long. Seizing this as a strategic opportunity, Lord Moore made plans for a magnificent castle upon the lake. The building was difficult to build, as could be expected for such an endeavor, but never-the-less the base of the structure was soon finished. In just three years, the main keep and chambers were complete. Ecstatic with the outcome of his building, Viktor decided to sleep his first night in one of the complete chambers...
During the process as a whole Viktor was blind to the sheer wickedness of the lake. Although workers occasionally disappeared and supplies randomly went missing, Viktoro s pride in the keep made him oblivious. Many strange things had already happened, but the cursed lake still had more devious plots. Just when Viktor was falling asleep he heard a scratching at the window. He sat up, but could hear nothing. He plopped back into bed and soon forget about the mysterious noise. Suddenly he felt a sharp pain in the side of his neck and the fluttering of wings. Quickly, he lit a torch, but nothing out of the ordinary was to be seen. Viktor was very sleepy, so he couldn't remember if it was he who left the window ajar. He went back to sleep and thought nothing more of it, for he could not see the swelling bite on the back of his neck.
His workers were the first to notice, and then the townspeople. Not, the small bite on his neck, but his severe change in personality. Once a understanding, kind gentlemen he became a cold, quick-tempered tyrant, often abusing his power and former respect. Soon other people, mainly workers, began to develop such a temper from the bite. When the castle was almost complete Lord Moore reached the final stage in his transformation. Folk who were displeasing to him were often seen on stakes outside his keep. He became so terrible that the locals and builders alike began to flee from the forest. Before Viktor could issue the next blow of his tyrannical rule, the Barono s son, Sir Edward Rogers, proved himself.
Edward led a small force of two score brave knights into the dreaded palace. After a long and treacherous search they found Moore in one of his hidden chambers, hunched over a book of black spells. They slew him there and dragged him to the highest tower, where he was laid to rest. The knights departed and took with them many of Viktoro s belongings including the spell book of dark magic. They kept many of the items for themselves, but gave the book to a great and wise wizard. The sorcerer determined that the magic book was titled o The Art of Resurrectiono in some ancient tongue. It did not take the sorcerer and new Baron long to finish to puzzle. They rushed back to the keep, but were much too late. After something, whether it was Viktor or some other abominable being now inhabited the tower dungeons and chambers of Lichmere. The knights were able to flush most of the evil out from the upper towers, but the demonic sorcery that lay below remained untouched. With the vampire exiled into the dark tunnels the soldiers contented to take their leave. The keep has been silent for over two centuries, but recently queer things have occurredo ¦
