Make sure that you unzip the compressed zip file you downloaded and place it's contents into your saves folder, located in your .minecraft folder.

multiplayer servers verify player's usernames. yours couldn't be verified. maybe minecraft.net was down or you're using a cracked version of minecraft..

try technic launchers unmodded minecraft if you can't log on.
