Viewing problems

Hey, I'm very new to this website, but I've been a bit confused.

Let me start at the beginning. I was playing Minecraft, computer crashed, my world was gone. I made a new world, copied the level files over to the old one, then started it. It spawned me in the middle of a large ocean. I began searching for map viewers in order to find my way back to my original home. Since then, I have uploaded 4 maps, and the only one I could view was the new world I accidentally uploaded. The rest are all grey, with a compass in the middle.

I read other similar posts trying to find a solution, and you gave some links to 1.2 support, and I am way out of my depth here. PLEASE, what can I do to see the map...heck, if you could even view WORLD4 and tell me where I have to go to get home, that would be the best thing ever.
